THODUPUZHA: With the summer getting hotter and power generation and consumption rising sharply, water levels in the state's dams are dropping rapidly. Only 52 percent of water is left in the reservoirs under KSEB. It was 64 percent at the same time last year.
Water that can be used to produce 2171.727 million units of electricity is all that is left in the dams. The water level in Idukki Dam, the largest hydroelectric project in the state, is 2351.76 feet (47% of maximum storage capacity). This is 20% less than the water level last year. Currently, the water level is dropping by one foot every three days on average. The water level has gone down by more than 10 per cent in all the dams in the last one month.
The state has consumed 85.3246 million units of electricity in the last 24 hours. This is one of the highest consumptions of this summer. 18.374 million units of electricity were generated across the state on Tuesday. Of this, 5.867 million units are from the Idukki Hydropower Project. Since the onset of summer, Idukki has been generating an average of seven million units of electricity every day. The water required to generate 1037.636 million units of electricity is left in Idukki. 4.0568 million units of electricity were generated from the Sabarigiri project the other day.
