THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Amit Khan became the secular symbol of Attukal Pongala by offering pongala at General Hospital junction which was organized by CITU. Amit Khan added rice to the pongala pot and participated with the activists to distribute water and other necessities to the devotees. He also assisted the priest of the Attukal temple trust to offer pongala.
Amit Khan was included in the team under the leadership of Palayam Local Committee Secretary IP Binu when he expressed his desire to be involved in Pongala activities. A photo of Amit Khan offering pongala went viral on social media. He is a native of General Hospital. Amit says that he is doing these activities regardless of caste or religion because he wants to follow the path of his grandfather Syed Amir, who was a former CITU worker in the General Hospital area. Amit who passed B.Sc Hotel Management is working as a food delivery boy.
If possible, I will offer pongala next year as well. It also had an aim to make others aware of the lesson that harmony and community is greater than religion and caste. Amit said that he is religious, but he wants to believe that all religions and human beings are one.
