HYDERABAD: National Women’s Commission member, BJP leader and actress Khushbu Sundar said that she was sexually abused by her father and told ANI that she is not ashamed of what she said.
‘I have not made a startling statement. I revealed what happened to me. I am not ashamed of what I said and the one who committed such a heinous act should be ashamed of. I want women to speak about what has happened to them. You have to be strong and take control of yourself and not let anything bring you down or think that this is the end of the road. If I have taken so many years to speak about it, I think women need to speak about it and tell them this has happened to me and I will continue my journey, no matter what," she added.
During an interview with Barkha Dutt, she said she was sexually abused by her father when she was eight years old. When a child is abused, whether it is a girl or a boy, their life is battered. My mother went through a worst married life. My father was one who thought that it was his birthright to torture his wife and children and sexually abuse his only daughter.
She said she got the guts to speak against her father when she was 15. She said that she did not reveal this to anyone as she feared whether her mom would believe her. For her, husband was like God. She said that her father deserted them when she was 16.
