SEOUL: It is reported that a 60-year-old man starved and killed 1,000 dogs abandoned by their owners. Further investigation is going on in the case. The incident took place in Yagpyeong, Gyeonggi Province, one of the most populated areas of South Korea.

The owners often give dogs to breeders to get rid of canines that were past the breeding age or were commercially unattractive. The owners pay 10,000 won to take care of the dogs when they abandon them. The 60-year-old locks up the dogs and kills them without feeding them. This was informed to the media by the animal rights group ‘Care’.

While searching for his lost dog, a youth came across the dogs carcasses. The bodies of the dead dogs were again placed on top of them. The starved dogs were kept in cages, sacks and rubber boxes. The regional government of Yagpyeong said the dead dogs would be removed this week. In South Korea, those who deliberately kill animals without feeding them can be jailed for up to three years or fined up to 30 million won.
