KANHANGAD: Advocate Shukoor, who shivered in front of the magistrate in the movie Nna Thaan Case Kodu, is a revolutionary in life. In defiance of the Muslim law of succession, he remarried his wife Dr. Sheena under the Special Marriage Act. The legal acumen of the lawyer was used to make sure that his three daughters will get an inheritance to get his properties. Children Khadijah Jasmine, Fatima Jebin, and Fatima Jessa witnessed the second wedding of Vappa and Umma on World Women's Day.

If anyone has any objection to the second marriage when the first marriage which was conducted following the religious traditions still valid, Advocate Shukoor will say - Nna Thaan Case Kodu (Sue me then!).

C Shukoor, a lawyer at the Hosdurg bar, and Dr. Sheena, director of the Kannur University Manjeswaram Law Campus, registered their marriage under the Special Marriage Act before Hosdurg sub-registrar VV Madhusudan yesterday morning. A notice was posted on the board in the registrar's office along with the photograph of both of them asking to inform if anyone objected to the registration of their marriage. They got married on October 6, 1994, according to Islamic rituals.

According to Islamic law, daughters cannot inherit the entire property of their parents. Daughters get only two-thirds of the property after the death of their parents. If there are no sons, one share should be given to the brothers. The only way for daughters to get the entire property is through the Special Marriage Act passed by Parliament in 1954. That is why Advocate Shukoor remarried Dr. Sheena under that law. Kozhikode Bar Association President Adv Sajeev and CPM District Secretariat member VV Ramesan signed as witnesses. Shukoor's brother Muneer's wife Zahira had arrived from Dubai.

My sisters and I are happy to be able to attend our parents' second wedding. We are recognized on International Women's Day

- Khadijah Jasmine (Daughter)

I did not register the marriage in support of the uniform civil code. A strong stand has been taken by me against Sangh Parivar. Society has accepted my stand in the Riyas Moulavi murder case, the K Surendran election case, and speech inciting religious enmity. A convention of like-minded people will be held in Kozhikode on the 12th.
