ventilators

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The trend of unannounced transfer of patients requiring ventilators from government-private hospitals to medical college hospitals is on the rise again after a while. In this situation, the medical college hospital has also imposed conditions for bringing patients.

At present, the hospital has 250 ICU beds including I-care beds, 180 of which have ventilator facilities. Before bringing the patients, the concerned hospital authorities should hand over the report describing the current health condition of the patient to the medical college hospital authorities. Then the decision will be made by the emergency department of the hospital and the head of the concerned department. For this purpose, a public relation officer system has been introduced to organize things more effectively, to admit patients who needed a ventilator. But recently, in the case of many critical patients complaining that ventilators are not available on time, an investigation was conducted and it was learned that ventilators are being delivered to patients without prior notification through the emergency department.

Every day 800 to 1000 patients seek treatment in the emergency department alone with emergencies including accidents. In this situation, it is difficult to get a ventilator for these patients in case of an emergency.

To avoid difficulties, after adjusting the ventilator, the process of bringing patients from outside will be strengthened.
