KANHANGAD: Police protection has been provided for Advocate C Shukkoor, known for his role in the movie 'Nna Thaan Case Kodu', after receiving threats on social media. Two policemen have been assigned in front of his house on Lakshmi Nagar Haji Road.
The threats came when Shukkoor and his wife, Sheena Shukkoor, director of the Manjeswaram Law Campus, remarried under the Special Marriage Act to overcome the situation where daughters do not inherit the entire property after the death of their father under Islamic law.
C Shukkoor and Sheena Shukkoor got their marriage registered before the Hosdurg sub-registrar on Women's Day. Since Wednesday, there were posts criticizing him on social media. There were threats he'll be beheaded and that his house will be destroyed. Shukkoor has been involved in road accidents twice, albeit by accident. He says that he will not be surprised if there is another accident.
At the same time, Shukkoor says that he did not ask for police protection and that he is uncomfortable that two policemen are guarding his house day and night.
Organizations including the Council for Fatwa and Research have protested against Shukkoor. The Council for Fatwa and Research stated in an explanation released yesterday that the law of inheritance in Islam is applicable only after the death of the father and if religion does not prevent transferring the entire savings to the daughters during their lifetime, there is no need for a egistered marriage to bypass the Islamic law.
