KOCHI: Chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan has given the ultimatum to officials to douse the fire in Brahmapuram by Sunday. Just three days left to meet the deadline, the new collector N S K Umesh, and the team are hassling to figure out all moves to bring normalcy back to the region.

From Ernakulam, Kottayam, and Thrissur, 30 Hitachis are brought in to help the mission. Therefore the total JCB count has turned to 60. From all districts, more than 200 fireplace officials have touched Brahmapuram to cooperate on the mission. The collector and Mayor paid a visit to the spot and conducted a meeting with officials. A regulatory board has also been assigned to study more about the toxic fumes emanating from the waste plant.

Albeit the strong presence of Hitachis and fire force officials, the fire is still not doused completely. The plastics piled in the plant are turning out to be an impediment to the mission as toxic fumes are still emanating all over giving difficult nights for the residents of the city. Meanwhile, the navy helicopters were expected yesterday but never came with help.

In another case, 7 people were admitted to Kalamassery medical college after experiencing difficulty breathing. With the solid waste plant in Brahmapuram riddled with a dousing mission, the streets of Kochi are now being turned into an alternative with wastes of all hues. Near Kaloor, the carcasses of meat from a shop were thrown near the roadside making it a grueling day for localities.
