KOCHI: The FIR against Transport Minister Antony Raju in the evidence tampering case, has been quashed. The order was in consideration of the minister's request to quash the case. Meantime, the court clarified that the order does not prevent filing a case again following the procedure. The minister thanked God. He added that this was a case which was investigated and dismissed twice during the UDF rule.
The incident happened on October 5 in 1994. The case is that the mainour (thondimuthal) was manipulated to save the accused in a drug case. The police had registered a case against the foreigner for bringing drugs hidden in his underwear. The underwear and other things were brought to the court as mainour. However, the case was that Antony Raju, the lawyer of the accused and the court employee removed the underwear from there and brought another one as evidence.
The Valiyathura police filed a case and went to Neyyattinkara court, alleging that the evidence was tampered with and changed. Antony Raju reached the high court questioning this.
