KOCHI: After the Brahmapuram fire, 678 people sought treatment for respiratory problems, Minister P Rajeev said. Out of this, 421 people participated in the camp. The Minister also stated that this will include fire force personnel. Minister MB Rajesh said that Brahmapuram is an unusual situation. He also informed that steps will be taken to prevent another Brahmapuram from happening again. Ministers MB Rajesh and P Rajeev were meeting the media after the Brahmapuram special meeting.
The ministers announced that an 82-day action plan would be implemented from tomorrow to May in relation to waste management. Bio-waste will be treated at the source. Harita Karma Sena will do the doorstep collection of inorganic waste. June 30 is the deadline for ensuring waste management systems for flats. War room will be opened in Collectorate and local bodies. The Ministers also informed that the work plan to be done in one year will be implemented in three months.
Meanwhile, in Brahmapuram, the High Court formed a monitoring committee. The committee comprises the Director of Suchitwa Mission, Chief Engineer of LSG Department, District Collector, Chief Environmental Engineer of Pollution Control Board, Corporation Secretary and KELSA Secretary. The court directed that the garbage collection should resume from tomorrow. The court also directed that there will be health problems in the city of Kochi due to the obstruction of garbage disposal, and steps should be made to resolve that immediately
