THRISSUR: A massive fire broke out in the godown of an event management company in Peringavu. The fire was extinguished after five hours of effort by the fire force. As per estimates, there has been a loss of Rs 2 crores.
The fire broke out in the warehouse of Oscar Event Management Company on Chembookavu Peringavu Road at around 10:30 yesterday morning. The local residents used to dump garbage and burn it near the bushes behind the godown. It is believed that the fire may have started from this.
Materials and accessories made of plywood, including stage decorations, textiles, furniture and electrical equipment were completely burnt. Three puppies in the warehouse died in the fire.
Vipin, a fireman of Kunnamkulam Fire Station collapsed during the rescue operation and was admitted to the district general hospital.
Apart from fire force units from Thrissur, Pudukkad, Vadakkancherry, Guruvayur, Kunnamkulam, Nattika and Iringalakuda, a unit from Palakkad district also arrived to douse the fire.
