KOLLAM: A man was brutally beaten up by the policemen of Kundara station in front of the locals for asking the policemen to show their identity card. The incident took place when the policemen came in mufti to inspect a house in Kilikollur at night. The man was arrested on charges of assaulting the police and obstructing work. The arrested person is Karikkode native Sinilal (42). The visuals of Sinilal being beaten up by the police, including the SI, have gone viral on the social media.

The incident took place on Monday night. SI Ambarish of Kundara station, CPOs Arunraj and Manu reached the area in mufti to arrest an accused in a attempted murder case. They later stormed to the second floor of a house in the region. The head of the house and his wife got frightened upon seeing strangers entering the house. Upon learning about this, Sinilal and his friends reached the spot.

A dispute broke out between the locals and the police after Sinilal asked the policemen for their identity cards. Following this, Kundara CI, who reached the spot, took Sinilal to the nearby jeep and manhandled him. Sinilal was then brutally beaten up by the SI and other policemen. After brutally beating him inside the jeep, the policemen framed him in a false case of assaulting the police and handed him over to the Kilikollur police. During the medical examination, Sinilal informed the doctor that he was beaten up by the police. When produced in the court, Sinilal told the magistrate that he was unecessarily beaten up by the police.

Meanwhile, the police are claiming that the locals led by Sinilal created the conflict to help the accused in an attempted murder case to escape. They also accused him of attacking the SI.
