THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Darley Ammumma alias Darley (90), a native of Olathanni, Neyyattinkara, who fought single-handedly against the loss of her home due to the brutality of the sand mafia, has passed away. Darley died in the care home of the district panchayat at Andoorkonam.

Her husband had died earlier and she had no children. Grandma Darley was stranded in an island-like house on the shores of Neyyar as the sand mafia dug right up to her house. Still, Darley fought hard against the sand mafia. With this, local residents and people joined hands with her. Darley was noticed when the issue gained huge news coverage.

For a long time, Darley lived on the 15 cents land that was given to her as a family share. Darley retired as a class four employee from Neyyattinkara Ayurveda Hospital.
