THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kerala State Human Rights Commission has intervened on a complaint that a woman was sent home without stitching her abdominal wound after the surgery. The Human Rights Commission has ordered an inquiry into the complaint of Pathanapuram native K Sheeba, who has been suffering for more than a year following continuous surgeries. Commission chairman Justice Antony Dominic directed the director of medical education to conduct an investigation and submit a report within four weeks.

Sheeba, whose husband died 18 years ago, was a domestic worker in Kuwait for seven years. A uterine tumour was detected when she underwent an examination after experiencing abdominal pain. Although the uterus was removed, she experienced swelling and excruciating pain in the surgical area a week later. Upon reaching the hospital, another surgery was performed to remove the pus from her stomach. However, the pain did not subside. Later, she was taken to Parippally Medical College, another private hospital and Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. It is alleged that after undergoing surgery at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College in December 2022, Sheeba was sent back on a bus without having her abdominal wound stitched.

Meanwhile, Ganesh Kumar MLA had explained the plight of Sheeba in the assembly the other day. She is now receiving free expert treatment at Ernakulam Aster Medcity following the intervention of the MLA.
