NEW DELHI: Along with Rahul Gandhi's Lok Sabha membership, the Congress is also losing its second power centre in Delhi, known as TL (Tughlaq Lane) 12, the official residence, of Rahul. After former President Sonia Gandhi's 10 Janpath, this house has been the venue for critical discussions and meetings for 19 years.
Rahul got this official residence in 2004 when he was first elected to the Lok Sabha from Amethi in Uttar Pradesh. This spacious type 8 bungalow is just a five-minute drive away from Parliament, party headquarters on Akbar Road, and Sonia's residence. Party discussions were held in a separate room. Journalists are not allowed inside. All the decorations inside the house were done by sister Priyanka. There is a shuttle court in the corner of the spacious premises and a gym inside the house.
This residence has witnessed all the ups and downs of Rahul's political career after he moved out of 10, Janpath in 2005. In 2007, Rahul became the party general secretary in charge of the Youth Congress and NSUI. He became vice president in 2013, and president in 2017. Although Rahul resigned from the post of party president after the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the importance of the house did not diminish. Over the years, TL 12 witnessed several crucial meetings.
