KOLKATA: Clashes in Bengal during Ram Navami celebrations. The clash broke out in Howrah while the Ram Navami procession was passing through. Many vehicles were burnt and stone pelting has also been reported. Police had to use tear gas to bring the situation under control. The police conducted a route march at the spot.

The clash erupted when the Ram Navami procession was passing through Kazipara. Police vehicles were also damaged in the incident. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had directed that vigilance should be observed and the celebrations should be held peacefully as there were clashes on the occasion of Ram Navami last year as well. The conflict occurred despite the warning.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee accused BJP as the reason for the conflict. She said that BJP was always targeting Howrah and they are bringing goons from other states to create communal riots. Mamata also said that the rioters will be treated as traitors and strong action will be taken. Mamata Banerjee is currently conducting a two-day-long sit-in in Kolkata against the central government's policies.
