VAIKOM: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has stated that a memorial will be built to preserve the glory of the Vaikom satyagraha.
"The government is organising the celebration for 603 days. A memorial will be built as we understand that the glory of the Vaikom satyagraha should be preserved even after that," the CM said after inaugurating the state-level Satyagraha centenary celebrations along with Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin.
"The Vaikom Satyagraha set a great example of standing together in the struggle. Tamil Nadu and Kerala stood together in it. What sets Vaikom Satyagraha apart from other revivalist movements is the integration of social reform revivalism and the national independence movement. A progressive movement like the Vaikom Satyagraha would not have happened if it had not been for the inspiration of the spirited messages of Sree Narayana Guru, Chattampi Swamikal and Ayyankali," Pinarayi said.
