RANNI: A woman died after a concrete footbridge across a stream collapsed. Her husband was injured. The deceased has been identified as Eliyamma (76), wife of John Thomas (Babykutty) of Vayarakkunnel in Pulloli in Angadi. The injured John Thomas was admitted to a private hospital in Ranni.

The incident happened at 11.30 am on Sunday. Both were going to a farm near the house. The concrete slab of a footbrige near the main road collapsed when they stepped on it. Both the injured were taken to a private hospital in Ranni, but Eliyamma could not be saved. John Thomas' leg and Eliyamma's head were injured. The slab fell on top of them as they fell into the stream that had dried out. Funeral will be held later. Children: Vinod, Kochumol. In-laws: Jessy (Teacher at St. Thomas UPS Chellakkad ), Manu.
