THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The system of issuing immediate construction permits for buildings up to 300 square meters without inspection is being implemented in panchayats, after its successful commencement in the municipalities. The system will be effective from May. Information Kerala Mission (IKM) has started modifying the software used in panchayats, 'SANKETHAM', for this purpose. Steps are underway to set up an artificial intelligence system that will help the software to self-check the applications.

The fast-track permit system came into force in municipalities on Saturday. Those who applied online received their permits within hours. Applications received yesterday were also processed, even though it was a holiday. 11 applications received on Saturday were checked by the software and permits were granted. The authorized licensee who applies online is the one who receives the permit. The applications received on Saturday are 8 in Thiruvananthapuram, 2 in Kannur, and 1 in Kalamasery. Each of the applications received in Thiruvananthapuram and Thrissur yesterday, which was a holiday, was accepted. With this, the situation of having to pay a bribe has also been avoided.
