KOZHIKODE: A search has been intensified for the attacker who set fire inside a running train in Elathur. Police said the attacker was wearing a red shirt and a cap. CCTV visual of the attacker escaping in a someone else’ bike have been obtained. The investigating team said the bike stopped without asking for a lift. The person who gave him the lift also could not be found.
A bag suspecting to be that of the attacker has been obtained from the track near the Elathur railway station. A bomb squad will inspect the bag following the suspicion of explosives in the bag. Forensic team will also examine.
Police said the incident is mysterious. Primary conclusion is that the attack is a planned one. The anti-terrorism squad have started collecting details. The attack happened on the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive at 9 pm last night. The man set fire on the passengers of D1 coach after pouring petrol.
Meantime, the bodies found near the track have been identified. Noufik of Mattannur, Rahmath and niece Sahara of Mattannur in Kannur are the three dead. The three died while jumping from the train to escape from the fire. Eight who sustained burns are undergoing treatment in various hospitals. Four of them are in the intensive care unit.
