THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government has decided to distribute the social welfare pension of Rs 3200 for the last two months. It is reported that the distribution will start from next Monday. Minister K N Balagopal praised the move as a Vishu offering from the government to more than 60 lakh beneficiaries. The government has approved the distribution of Rs 1871 crore which will start reaching the pensioners by April 10th.
Earlier, the government made a consortium and took loans worth Rs 800 crore from corporative banks to complete the pension payments. The central government meanwhile deemed that the amount borrowed will add to the overall debt of the state which made the government halt the pension scheme across the state.
Those who have received the social welfare pension till December 31st should do the biometric mustering between April 1 and June 30. In the coming months, the government will make it mandatory for only pensioners with biometric mustering to avail social welfare pension.
