GUDALUR: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit the Theppakadu Elephant camp in the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu on April 9 to meet Bellie and Bomman, the tribal couple featured in the Oscar winning documentary ‘The Elephant Whisperers’. PM Modi will also have a glimpse of elephant calves Raghu and Bommi, the main characters in the award winning documentary.

‘The Elephant Whisperers’ was directed by documentary filmmaker Kartiki Golsalves. The documentary showcased the love and care showered by caretakers Bellie and Bomman in rearing the orphaned baby elephants, Raghu and Bommi.

Roads, pathways and buildings are being renovated as part of the preparations. Ahead of PM Modi’s visit, security has been tightened in the Mudumalai Tiger Reserve (MTR) region. As part of the security protocol, Mudumalai Reserve Management ordered the closure of resorts and restaurants inside the area from April 6 to 9.
