KOZHIKODE: The Kerala police are suspecting that Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the Elathur train attack case, has terrorist links. The police received information regarding his terrorist links when they subjected him to preliminary questioning. Shahrukh has been handed over to the Kerala police. He will be soon brought to Kerala.
It is reported that the attack was singlehandedly carried out by Shahrukh. The police are investigating whether he received help from anyone and why he chose Kerala and the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive train for the attack.
After entering the D-1 coach of the train as a passenger, Shahrukh set his fellow passengers on fire after quickly pouring the petrol from the bottles kept in his both hands on them. According to sources, the accused did this without any provocation. The officers are suspecting that the accused wanted to kill everyone in the coach as he tried to pour petrol on all passengers and not on any particular person. They have obtained evidence that strengthens this suspicion. The police are saying that the action was pre-planned as the accused did not know anyone in the compartment.
The accused carried out the attack before the train completely entered the Korapuzha bridge in Elathur. As the train stopped, the passengers ran out and escaped. The passengers would not have been able to escape had the D1, and D2 coaches of the train been in the middle of the bridge. The passengers would have plunged into the Korapuzha river if they had jumped out in panic. The police suspect that the accused was also aiming for a big tragedy.
