THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: AICC general secretary Tariq Anwar, who is in charge of Kerala affairs cautioned senior leaders over party discipline. “Congress is not against freedom of speech but party discipline is applicable to everyone. Disciplinary action will be taken against those violating it. All issues will be discussed in party forums’, Anwar said.

“As of now, no party MP has conveyed objection regarding candidature in Lok Sabha polls. A meeting of MPs will be convened and all issues will be resolved”, he added.

In the KPCC executive meeting, many senior leaders including PJ Kurian criticized Shashi Tharoor MP for making contradictory statements. Majority of them reacted sharply to Tharoor’s opinion that he would have encouraged regional parties to take the convener role in Opposition alliance for 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Kurian accused Tharoor of breaching party discipline and said that KPCC President should direct Tharoor to toe with the party line. Meanwhile, Johnson Abraham slammed Tharoor for putting Congress in a vulnerable position in national politics through his immature statements.

Leaders also targeted K Muraleedharan MP for his allegation that the party denied him a chance to speak at Vaikom Satyagraha centenary celebrations. Thiruvanchoor Radhakrishnan MLA said that many senior leaders are violating party discipline and they should take corrective measures for the sake of Congress.
