CHENGANOOR: Police rescue the newborn baby left by the mother in a bucket in the toilet. A thirty-four-year-old woman came to a private hospital in Angadikal yesterday afternoon due to bleeding. Her mother and eleven-year-old son were with her. Feeling suspicious, the doctor conveyed the information to Chengannur police. The woman and her mother told the police that the baby was dead. It was her elder boy who informed them that the baby was in the bucket at home. The police reached the house and rushed the baby in the bucket to a private hospital in Chengannur. After first aid, the child was shifted to Kottayam Medical College Hospital.

According to the police:

The woman has been separated from her husband for two years. The baby boy was delivered at 7.30 am yesterday. It was decided to abandon the baby but the mother started bleeding and had to go to the hospital. She reached the hospital in an autorickshaw after dumping the baby in a bucket. A case was registered against the woman and the investigation was led by Chengannur CI AC Vipin, SI MC Abhilash, Grade SI Ajit Khan and CPOs Jijo and Harish.

Police intervention helped

The eldest child told the details of what happened to Chengannur SI Abhilash which led to the baby's life getting saved. The child told the police that he brought scissors to his mother as requested and the baby was in the bucket in the bathroom. The police rushed to the spot without wasting any time. The baby in the bucket was motionless. Realizing that it was not appropriate to take the baby out of the bucket, the police rushed to the vehicle with the bucket as the police vehicle did not reach the house. The baby was immediately taken to a hospital eight kilometers away from the spot.
