NEW DELHI: Maharashtra ATS informed that Shahrukh Saifi who was arrested in the Elathur train attack case has confessed to the crime. Mobile phone, ATM card, Aadhaar and PAN cards were also seized from him. Maharashtra ATS also stated that he has been handed over to Kerala Police for further investigation.
The accused was arrested from Ratnagiri on Tuesday during a search conducted by the Anti-Terrorist Wing of the Maharashtra Police and the Central Intelligence Agencies. According to the press release issued by ATS, he confessed to the crime during the interrogation.
He had sought treatment at the Ratnagiri District Hospital before being caught by the police. During escape attempt, he was caught at Ratnagiri railway station by the Maharashtra ATS and Ratnagiri police following a tip-off from the intelligence.
Meanwhile, the special investigation team of Kerala Police has returned to the state with Shahrukh Saifi. The accused was handed over to the Kerala Police on Wednesday afternoon. Before this, NIA and Maharashtra ATS had interrogated the accused. The charges against Shahrukh are attempt to murder, causing injury, use of explosives and Section 151 of the Railway Act.
