THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shahrukh Saifi, who is accused of setting fire inside a running train in Kozhikode, has given a statement to the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) that he acted on a person's advice. According to him, a person advised that good times will come if causes death of some people. He has not revealed the identity of this person. Shahrukh came to Kozhikode and bought three bottles of petrol. Two bottles of petrol were hurled at the passengers and set them on fire. After this, he went to another compartment as he knew that if he ran away, the police and passengers would catch him. The move was to go to Ajmer from Kerala. He went from Kerala to Maharashtra on Marusagar Express.
Shahrukh reached Ratnagiri on Monday. As he was in a weak state, he told people that he fell from a train and got injured. He first sought treatment at a primary health center in Khed. From there he was referred to a hospital in Chipluk as the injury was serious. He then stabbed an ambulance worker with a screwdriver while being transported in an ambulance. From there, he boarded a fuel tanker and escaped. Later, the accused was arrested and taken to Ratnagiri Civil Hospital. While being treated there, he managed to evade the staff and escape. Later, ATS found him at Ratnagiri railway station. The arrest was made after checking the CCTV and confirming his identity.
The accused, who has been handed over to Kerala police, will be taken to Kozhikode.
