KOZHIKODE: The accused in the Elathur arson case has been brought to Kozhikode. Shahrukukh Saifi, a native of Shaheen Bagh in Delhi, was brought to the Maloorkunnu police camp. The police team, who left from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra by car with the accused last afternoon reached Kozhikode Thursday morning.
Meantime, the police said Shahrukh Saifi in his initial statement said that after setting fire to the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express train, he reached Kannur in the same train. He was hiding in platform number one when the police were inspecting the train. He told police that this was his first visit to Kerala. He also testified that he set fire to the train due to his wickedness. The accused will be produced in the court later today after detailed interrogation.
The attacker set fire to the train going to Kannur from Alappuzha at around 9 pm on Sunday. Three people who jumped from the train lost their lives while trying to escape from the fire. The suspect, who escaped from the train, was caught from Ratnagiri in Maharashtra on Tuesday with the help of various agencies.
