KOZHIKODE: Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the train fire incident, has been diagnosed with jaundice. He was taken to Maloorkunnu in Kozhikode and after interrogation, he was subjected to medical examination. Jaundice was confirmed in the blood test. He has been admitted to Kozhikode Medical College.
He was brought to Maloorkunnu camp on Thursday morning. The further proceedings of the police have not been revealed. The police will get clarity about the involvement of others only if the accused is in custody. But he can be taken into custody only if his health condition improves.
Saifi poured petrol on the passengers and set them on fire on a train at Elathur on Sunday night. It is reported that he later reached Ratnagiri in Maharashtra after the incident. Shahrukh, who told the police that it was his own decision to carry out the attack, added that he singlehandedly carried out the attack. He also said that he had never been to Kerala before. However, the police think that most of the statements of the accused are lies. Shahrukh has not given a proper answer when quizzed about the motive behind the attack.
After setting the fire, the accused went back by train without taking a ticket. He travelled in the general compartment and hid his face. When other passengers noticed, he shifted to other compartments and continued his journey.
