MANJERI: A three-and-a-half-year-old boy was admitted to the ICU of Kozhikode Medical College in critical condition after suffering from food poisoning. Four children of Anilkumar and his sister got food poisoning last Friday. Eight members of the family, including seniors and children, had consumed kuzhi mandhi and al faham from 'Kauser Kuzhimandhi', which operates near Manjeri Bypass. That very night the children felt uneasy. Anilkumar's three sons, Amarnath (12), Abhinav (7), Adwaith (three and a half years old), and his sister's daughter Akhila (12) experienced stomach trouble. The children sought treatment at Manjeri Medical College after experiencing high fever, abdominal pain and vomiting. Then there was temporary relief for all except Adwaith and he became ill and developed severe fever and seizures. Then he got admitted in Manjeri Medical College. They were referred to the Kozhikode Medical College saying that the facilities for treatment were less. After tests, the doctors confirmed that it was food poisoning.


The test revealed that Adwaith had developed Shigellaa as a result of food poisoning. He is still in critical condition in ICU. The child is unable to open his eyes or speak. Other children continued to be unwell and have undergone tests after experiencing fatigue. The doctors have informed that more information can be given only after the results are available. Anil Kumar and his family are preparing to take legal action against the hotel and its owner.
