KOCHI: The Kochi-Banglore LNG pipeline will pass through national highways in Tamil Nadu. The move was a corrective measure after farmers and Tamil Nadu MLAs culled the earlier plans of the pipeline through farm bodies. The pipeline through the national highway will take time to complete ergo delaying the tax revenue for the Kerala government.

The national road authority has given a green signal to GAIL to start pipeline works through NH44 from Coimbatore to Krishnagiri on the Karnataka border. The pipeline will be placed below the service roads. The work will soon kickstart from Salem to Krishnagiri stretch, informed GAIL to Keralakaumdi.

The Coimbatore-Salem survey is in the final stage. A tender will be soon called for the pipeline process. Earlier the works got stalled in Coimbatore after farmers and Tamil Nadu politicians denied permission for the pipeline to move through farmlands.

The pipeline will be placed at a two-meter depth below the service roads. The placement will be meticulous thus not tampering with the telecom and the electric cables drawn down inside the depth of roads.
