shahrukh-saifi

KOZHIKODE: Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the train fire case in Elathur, is likely to be produced before the magistrate. The police will take a decision in this regard based on the results of his blood test conducted this morning. He has been admitted at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital after confirmed with jaundice. If he is not able to leave the hospital, the police are also thinking of presenting him online. Shahrukh, who is under heavy guard in the hospital, was also questioned by the police yesterday. The NIA team is also in Kozhikode as part of the investigation.

Meantime, the suspicion of a terrorist attack on a train in Kozhikode is getting stronger. Maharashtra ATS informed the Kerala police that he is likely to be a member of a sleeper cell of any terrorist organization. Youths with no criminal background are selected for sleeper cells for such missions. DGP Anil Kant, who met the media in Delhi yesterday, has not rejected a terrorist connection. A clarity will be obtained only after he is questioned in detail once he recovers from his illness.

The planning of terrorist groups is behind the accused, a native of Delhi, coming to Kerala and setting fire to the train and escaping without being noticed by anyone. The involvement of many including in Kerala are also suspected. He may have chosen the Korapuzha railway bridge and the deserted Elathur area for the attack perhaps deliberately. It is also being investigated whether Shahrukh was pushed from the train at Kalambani in Maharashtra when the mission failed.

Shahrukh’s statement to Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Force that he set fire to the train on the instructions of someone and that one person was with him from Kozhikode and that someone advised him that killing people will bring good times. He had not revealed the names of them. However, he had told Kerala police that he did everything on his own due to his madness and no aides were there.

The police have not believed the statement that Shahrukh came to Kozhikode alone and bought petrol and set the train on fire. Attempts are being made to check his six SIM cards and social media accounts to find out whom all he contacted.
