KOCHI: In a major drug bust, the police have seized 15 kg of ganja from a gang that included women. The police arrested seven persons, including two women, from a lodge in the Kuzhikkadu region. The arrested persons are Karunagappalli native Jyothis (22), Thiruvankulam native Akshay Raj (24), Karunagappalli native Sreelal (26), Sasthamkotta native Harikrishnan (26), Oachira native Dileep (27), Mavelikkara native Megha Cheriyan (21) and Kayamkulam native Shilpa Shyam (19).

The accused used to bring the ganja, bought from the Balangir district of Odisha, to Ernakulam through lorries carrying vegetables and grocery items from Tamil Nadu. The agents in Ernakulam collect the ganja from the lorries when the vehicles stop at less crowded areas. The agents then deliver the ganja to various regions in Kochi.

The ganja brought in this way is handed over to the needy customers in packets of two kilograms each. The arrested persons are members of a major gang that delivers ganja in Kayamkulam, Karunagappalli, Mavelikkara and Sasthamkotta.

Dileep aka Boxer Dileep is an accused in several criminal cases in Kollam. The police also seized a weapon from the bag of Harikrishnan, another accused.
