MANANTHAVADY: The police have nabbed the accused who snatched the gold chain of a woman in broad daylight in Mananthavady. The arrested person has been identified as Kollam Kayamkulam native Sajith Kumar 'Gymman' aka Sachu, a notorious thief. The police also arrested Sachu's wife and co-accused Muthalammal (Ambika, 42), a native of Tamil Nadu.
The police arrested the two while they were trying to escape from Wayanad on a bike. They were nabbed from Thamarassery. Sajith is an accused in 37 cases registered in various police stations across the state. Sajith, who was travelling on a bike, snatched the gold chain of a forest department employee on the Mananthavady-Mysore road on Wednesday morning at around 11 am. The visual of the theft was obtained from the CCTV footage of a nearby establishment. The visual showed Sajith sitting on the bike and monitoring the woman before quickly starting the bike, snatching the gold chain and fleeing from the spot on the bike.
Upon examining the CCTV footage, the police found that the accused was a professional thief. The police team led by Mananthavady CI MM Abdul Kareem conducted a detailed investigation and found that the theft was committed by Sajith, one of the most notorious chain snatchers in the state. The police then began efforts to nab him by strengthening the surveillance at all exit points from Wayanad.
Later, the police received information that Sajith has started his journey on a bike along with a woman. The police initially planned to nab him in Thamarassery Ghat. However, the accused somehow managed to move forward at high speed. Following this, the police chased him and arrested him from Thamarassery.
