HYDERABAD: Kiran Kumar Reddy, the last Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh and a former leader of the Congress, is gearing up to join the BJP. Reports are claiming that Kiran Kumar Reddy will join the BJP today in the presence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national president JP Nadda.
Kiran Kumar Reddy, who was not on good terms with the Congress leadership, resigned from the party last month. In 2014, he had resigned from Congress and launched his own party as a protest against the then UPA government's decision to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh. However, he returned to Congress in 2018. However, he was not much active in the party. Some reports even claimed that he might quit politics.
It was the Congress that suffered a major setback following the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh. Several leaders left the party following the bifurcation. The Congress then faced a major defeat in the subsequent elections.
