KANNUR: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan visited the houses of the natives of Mattannur, who died following the fire in the train in Elathur. The chief minister visited the house of Rahmath of Palottupally and that of Noufeek of Chithrari. The district collector handed over the financial aid announced by the government to the families in the presence of the chief minister. The government had announced an aid of Rs 5 lakh to the families of the dead. The D1 coach of the Alappuzha-Kannur Executive Express was set on fire on Sunday at 9.27 pm.
Meantime, Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the train fire case, has been remanded. The magistrate visited him in the hospital and completed the procedures. He will be in judicial custody till April 20. He will be discharged from the hospital and shifted to the jail. The hospital authorities said that he has no serious health issues. The burns he sustained are not serious. His eyes are swollen but this has not affected his vision. In a test conducted, he was confirmed of jaundice and following that he was admitted to the hospital.
