NEW DELHI: Congress aiming to unite opposition parties against Modi government. There are reports that Congress leaders are planning to meet with like-minded party leaders to strategize, considering the current political situation and the upcoming Lok Sabha elections next year.

It is reported that Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge contacted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK President MK Stalin over the phone and invited him to attend the meeting. DMK supported Congress's decision to hold an opposition meeting. DMK is the main ally of Congress in Tamil Nadu and at the national level.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress, Samajwadi Party, Nationalist Congress Party, Rashtriya Janata Dal, and Left parties are yet to respond to Congress's invitation. Therefore, the place and time of the meeting have not been decided yet.

The Congress is hoping to build opposition unity and form a broad coalition of opposition parties before next year's general elections. Rahul Gandhi was disqualified from Parliament last month on charges of defamation and many opposition leaders had come out against this. 14 parties had jointly filed a petition in the Supreme Court for Rahul.
