PALAKKAD: A hartal has been announced in Muthalamada in protest against the move to shift rogue tusker Arikomban to Parambikulam. The locals announced the protest after the court directed the authorities to shift Arikkomban to Parambikulam. The hartal will begin at 6 am and end at 6 pm.

The Muthalamada panchayat has approached the court against the shifting of Arikomban to Parambikulam. The panchayat is claiming that 6 panchayats will be affected if the elephant is shifted to the region. It was decided in the all-party meeting to form a Janakeeya Samithi. Meanwhile, Minister K Krishnankutty said that the government is not adamant that Arikomban should be shifted to Parambikulam.

Parambikulam is home to different tribes of indigenous people settled in 10 colonies which house 611 families. More than 3000 people are living in this region.
