NEW DELHI: The central government is ready with steps to cull fake news targeting the ruling party, informed IT minister Rajeev Chandrasekhar. The program developed will make it easy to point out fake news targeting the government and in a matter of time, the government will have the authority to remove the same from all social media sites.
The minister allayed doubts saying the move won't hurt the freedom of speech in the country and assured about maintaining the press freedom in its true colors. Earlier, the government assigned PIB to fact-check news in all social media domains. However, a quick volte-face to find newer policies taking the authority away from PIB elicits curiosity and leaves many doubts.
Meanwhile, CPM came with protest regarding the new rule, saying it as new means employed by BJP to curtail the already plunging press freedom in the country. The government can move legally if the news website play reluctant to remove the news found fake by the government.
