TEZPUR: President Droupadi Murmu on Saturday took her maiden sortie in IAF’s frontline fighter aircraft Sukhoi-30 MKI from Tezpur airbase in Assam. She became the second female head of a state to fly on a warplane after former President Pratibha Patil.

President Murmu's bold move is aimed at promoting Indian Air Force and inspiring young women to pursue careers in aviation.


Murmu, who is on a three-day visit to Assam inaugurated Gaj Utsav at Kaziranga National Park and Tiger Reserve (KNPTR) yesterday to mark 30 years of Project Elephant.
