KOZHIKODE: The NIA is conducting a detailed investigation to find out if Shahrukh Saifi, the accused in the Elathiur train attack case, has terror links. The Kochi and Chennai units are conducting the investigation focusing on Delhi and other places to which Shahrukh travelled. UAPA will be imposed if it is found that there was a conspiracy involving more people.
The probe team is suspecting that Shahrukh might have obtained help from a group outside Kerala. This group might have brought the accused to Kerala and provided him with the necessary help. Upon checking the phone and social media accounts of the accused, the probe team obtained hints which showed that there was planning before the train attack.
The central agencies are hoping that they can obtain major details regarding the case by questioning Shahrukh in detail. The accused is repeating that no one else was behind the attack. Neighbours and friends of Shahrukh told the investigating officials that there were major changes in Shahrukh's behaviour in recent times. The probe team found that Shahrukh started writing diaries and performing religious practices by the end of 2021. He also completely gave up smoking recently.
Some reports are claiming that the probe team found that Shahrukh's plan was to set fire to an entire coach of the train. Meanwhile, CCTV footage of Shahrukh buying petrol from a petrol pump in Shoranur has come out.
