PERINTHALMANNA: Husband arrested by police for murdering his wife by suffocating her. Muhammad Rafeeq (35), a resident of Pallikunnu, Mannarkkad, was arrested. Fatima Fahna (30), the only daughter of Putrodi Kunhalavi and Nafeesa of Elamkulam, was the one who got murdered.

Fahna was sleeping with her husband and four-year-old daughter at her home in Ellamkulam on Saturday night. Muhammad Rafeeq became enraged and accused his wife of adultery after she rejected his demand for sex. Fahna's mother, who was sleeping in the adjacent room, heard a noise from the room at midnight and saw Rafeeq running away from the house. When she looked in the room, she saw her daughter with her legs tied to the window and bed and a cloth stuffed in her mouth. Fahna was immediately taken to Perinthalmanna District Hospital but could not be saved. The post-mortem report revealed that she was killed by suffocation.

Rafeeq came to his house in Avanakunnu, Mannarkad, after removing his wife's gold ornaments and the police took him into custody. Gold ornaments were recovered from the house during evidence collection. The accused was produced before the Tirur Judicial First Class Court and remanded for 14 days. There are pending cases against the accused for theft in Kozhikode district and for trying to set an ATM on fire in the Kalladikode station area.
