AKOLA: Seven people were killed and around 40 others injured after a tree fell on a shed inside a temple premise in a village in Maharashtra’s Akola district.
According to police, the incident took place around 7 pm on Sunday when large number of people gathered at the Babuji Maharaj temple for evening prayers.
“Due to heavy rains and wind, an old neem tree fell on the shed under which the devotees were standing to avoid getting drenched”, an official said.
The District Collector and Superintendent of Police visited the spot. Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis condoled the death of devotees and said that the state government will provide financial assistance to the families of those killed in the incident.
