THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Excise's Mobile Intervention Unit (KEMU) will start functioning from today to prevent the smuggling of spurious liquor and intoxicating drugs through the border routes. Initially, there are four units and Minister MB Rajesh will inaugurate them at Neyyatinkara Amaravila today at 10 am.
K Ansalan MLA will preside over the function which will be held at Amarvila GST parking yard. District Panchayat President D Suresh Kumar, Excise Commissioner S Anandakrishnan and others will participate. The first four units will operate in Thiruvananthapuram (Neyyatinkara), Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasaragod regions. Fake liquor and intoxicants are reaching Kerala through other routes, bypassing the check posts in Thiruvananthapuram, Palakkad, Wayanad and Kasargod districts.
