NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday accepted the legality of the Agnipath recruitment scheme. A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud observed that the scheme was not unilaterally implemented by the central government.
The apex court refused to entertain two petitions challenging the Delhi High Court order upholding the validity of the Agnitpath scheme and seeking to forthwith conduct Common Entrance Examination for the Indian Army. The court clarified that wider public interest should come before other considerations in the matter. The Delhi High Court had earlier approved Agnipath.
The court also rejected a petition seeking to complete the recruitment process started before Agnipath in the army. The court said that candidates have no right to demand completion of recruitment.
