NEW DELHI: The Uttar Pradesh police have prepared a chargesheet in a curious case of a rat murder. The incident happened last November 25th when Manoj Kumar made one macabre killing. The Budaun police-prepared chargesheet extends over 30 pages and also includes the postmortem report of the dead rat.
Animal lover Vikendra Sharma filed a case after he saw Manoj throwing the rat into a sewage dump. Vikendra for the sheer love of animals made the odd decision to enter the dump to save the rat. The attempt was not that helpful as the rat died when Vikendra took it out of the dump. After complaining to the police, the body was sent to Budaun veterinary hospital for postmortem but was denied service by the officials. Later, the body was sent to the Indian veterinary research institute for postmortem procedures.
The postmortem found pneumonia in the rat which may have happened after the sewage water flooded inside the respiratory glands. UP has been strictly following actions against animal cruelty which can bring at least three years of jail imprisonment with a Rs 20000 fine. The police have filed a report with additional tidbits of reports from the media.
Manoj Kumar's father said it was after many occasions of disturbance that Manoj decided to dump the rat in the sewage. If his son is punished, the father wants similar actions against people who kill cows, hens, and goats.
