THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: From now on, women can also join the fire service, which was a monopoly of men. PSC has published the district-level rank lists for the fire woman post after the written test, physical fitness test and swimming test. The rank list is for Thiruvananthapuram, Kottayam, Alappuzha, Thrissur, Palakkad, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Due to the lack of swimmers, the number of those listed is low. Advice memos will be started for these vacancies soon.

In 2020, the notification was published for the post of firewoman in the same category number for all the fourteen districts. 100 posts were specially reserved for this purpose. There were 15 vacancies each in Thiruvananthapuram, Ernakulam and Kozhikode districts and 5 vacancies each in other districts. Procedures in other districts are in progress. The list will be published soon. The pay scale for the post of fire woman is Rs 20,000 - 45,800. Kerala Fire Service came into existence in 1956 during the formation of the state but it is the first time that women were assigned to this job.
