THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A gang of 10, under the influence of alcohol, assaulted a shop run by women in Thampanoor and a house in Valiyasala. Six members of the gang were taken into custody by the Thampanoor police. The attackers are natives of Neyyatinkara's Oorutukala. Six people who were with them are absconding. The police said that all those arrested were under the influence of alcohol.


The first attack took place at a chip shop run by a mother and daughter at Aristo Junction, Thampanoor, at around 9 pm on Wednesday. Manoj, a manager of a nearby travel agency, who had come to drink tea at the shop, was brutally beaten up by the gang. The chip shop is run by a mother and daughter from Ernakulam. It is reported that the group had come to a birthday party at a nearby hotel. When two people entered the shop and made rude comments to her daughter at the counter, the mother intervened and warned them. Meanwhile, the rest of the group who were standing outside went inside the shop. They tried to make fun of mother and daughter. They were asked to leave the place and subsequently left in anger.

Meanwhile, Manoj came here to drink tea. With this, the group turned towards the man and tried to hit him with a bike. After taking Manoj out of the shop, he was beaten up by the gang on the road. He was admitted to the General Hospital. The second attack took place on a house near Valiyasala Mahadeva Temple. It is reported that the same group is behind both attacks.
