KOCHI: The bank account of a shop keeper who received money through UPI transaction has been frozen. The account of C P Rahul, who has a bunk shop in Varkala Maidn, in Bank of Baroda’s Varkala branch, was found to be frozen.
Two North Indians, who bought things worth Rs 620 from his shop, had tried to send the money through UPI, but failed. With this, they paid directly and took the goods. After two weeks they came and said that the money through UPI transaction has reached the creditor's account and asked him to return the money paid directly. When Rahulan went to the bank and inquired, he came to know that his account for the last 40 years, had been frozen.
The information received from the bank is that Rahulan's account has been frozen along with the accounts of the two from UP. It is learned that the system of automatic freezing of accounts of those who receive or send money from accounts related to cybercrime, is of the agencies investigating such crimes. However, the bank authorities have not been able to give a clear answer about the situation that led the account to be frozen.
