KOZHIKODE: The video of Mohammad Shafi (38), an expatriate youth kidnapped by a goon gang, has surfaced. In the video, Shafi said that he was kidnapped after demanding a share of the gold smuggled from Saudi Arabia. He also requested that efforts should be made to release him from goons as soon as possible. But Shafi does not say who kidnapped him or where he is.
"I was abducted because my brother and I had smuggled 325 kg of gold from Saudi Arabia. It is worth about Rs.80 crores. All the rest of the information has been given to them. So if these things are not done as soon as possible, there will be a big problem. So do things to release me as soon as possible. There is no point in holding a demonstration or a march to the police station.'' Shafi said.
According to the police, the video might be captured by the kidnappers after threatening Shafi. The police have started an investigation to find out from where this was filmed. Shafi was abducted by a gang in two vehicles on April 7. His wife, who tried to stop the act, was also dragged into the vehicle, but was later let off. Even after six days of the incident, the police have not been able to find Shafi. The police said that it is suspected that a gold smuggling gang is behind the kidnapping incident.
